    Sustainability

Water-based inks. Considered garments. Clear information about what you are choosing.

    Our approach at Screens.ink

At Screens.ink, sustainability starts with the choices behind your merchandise: the ink, the garment and how useful the finished piece will be. From our studio in Bussum, we work with AS Colour and Stanley/Stella, two clothing brands that publish information about their sourcing and responsibility programmes. We want to make those details easier to understand, so you can choose custom clothing with more confidence. No garment is impact-free, and we believe honest information matters more than broad ‘eco-friendly’ promises.

    Only water-based inks

We only use water-based inks for our screen printing. These inks use water as their main carrier, rather than the PVC-based formulation associated with conventional plastisol inks. Depending on the fabric, ink and design, they can produce a soft-feeling print that sits comfortably on the garment. For us, the aim is merchandise people genuinely want to wear, not a promotional item that stays in a drawer.

Water-based does not mean chemical-free, pollution-free or automatically biodegradable. Ink ingredients, curing and cleaning still matter. We do not claim that choosing this printing method makes an entire order certified sustainable. It is one specific material choice within a wider production process.

    AS Colour: responsible sourcing

AS Colour is our primary blank-garment range. Alongside its focus on garment quality, the brand publishes social-responsibility information and details about its factories. AS Colour identifies itself as an amfori member and lists BSCI, OEKO-TEX and other standards for particular manufacturing partners. BSCI concerns social-compliance monitoring; it is not a certificate that makes every finished garment sustainable.

AS Colour also explains OEKO-TEX Standard 100, which tests textiles for harmful substances against the standard’s limits. Its factory listings include GOTS and GRS at selected facilities. These references have specific scopes: a factory listing does not prove that every style in our collection carries the same certification. Ask us about the garment you are considering, rather than assuming all AS Colour items are organic or recycled.

    Stanley/Stella: organic and recycled options

Stanley/Stella offers individually labelled GOTS-certified products. GOTS, the Global Organic Textile Standard, addresses organic fibres and environmental and social requirements along the certified textile processing chain. The brand also reports GRS-certified recycled cotton, polyester and nylon. GRS verifies recycled content and includes processing requirements; the applicable claim depends on the material and product.

Stanley/Stella’s certification information also covers OEKO-TEX Standard 100 and its Fair Wear membership. Fair Wear supports work on labour conditions and human-rights due diligence. Membership is not a product certification, nor a guarantee that a supply chain is free of risk. These distinctions help keep our sustainability claims practical and transparent.

    Choose with confidence

Tell us what matters for your project: organic cotton, recycled content, fabric weight or a particular certification. We can help check the chosen blank’s documentation. Brand certifications do not automatically cover Screens.ink’s printing process or the finished decorated garment. Together, we can choose thoughtfully, without promising more than the evidence supports.

A well-chosen garment should suit its purpose, fit comfortably and be useful beyond a single event. Choosing the right style and quantities is part of making merchandise that people value and wear again regularly.
